CHIP cukup terkesan pada performa standar yang dihasilkan oleh Calibre P960. Karena suhunya cukup di bawah rata-rata reference card, CHIP mencoba untuk meng-overclocknya. Sayangnya, pada sampel yang didapatkan kali ini potensi overclockingnya tidak memuaskan. CHIP hanya berhasil mematok pada core clock 740 Mhz, memory clock 2200 Mhz, dan Shader clock 1955 Mhz. Selebihnya, akan terlihat artifak yang cukup besar pada program pengujian kami walaupun CHIP hanya menaikkannya sebesar 1 Mhz saja.

Kesimpulan: Sebuah graphics card yang cukup kencang dan didesain dengan bentuk yang indah. Suhunya pun di bawah rata-rata. Sayang, potensi overclockingnya kurang bagus.

IBM (Finally) Offers Lotus Notes/Domino Upgrade For Mac OS X

IBM (NYSE:IBM) Lotus is shipping the first new release of its Notes/Domino collaboration system for Apple (NSDQ:AAPL) Macintosh computers in more than two years, IBM announced Tuesday at the Macworld show in San Francisco.

IBM also said it will ship by the end of this month a Mac OS X version of its free Lotus Symphony document, spreadsheet and presentation application suite.

The new Notes/Domino 8.5 supports the Mac OS X operating system, as well as Windows and Linux computers. When IBM began shipping the Eclipse-based Notes/Domino 8.0 in August 2007, it only supported Linux, Windows XP and Vista. Notes/Domino 8.5 is the first new release to support Mac OS X since late 2006.

Somewhere around 10 percent of Notes/Domino sales are for Mac computers, estimated product manager Dwight Morse. "And that's going up," he said. Those are particularly concentrated in education and consumer markets, although there are signs that Macs are increasingly being used for general business use.

IBM is touting Notes/Domino 8.5 as the "social computing" version of the product because it offers links between the Notes calendar and public Internet calendars from Google, Yahoo and other Web companies. It's also more tightly integrated with the Lotus Connections social networking application, Lotus Sametime unified communications software and Lotus Quickr file-sharing application.

The link with Sametime, for example, lets Notes users see who is available before initiating a VoIP conversation. The community tools in Sametime also make it easier to identify someone within a group who has needed expertise.

The new release also provides significant savings in storage requirements because it stores only one copy of an attachment on a mail server even if the attachment is sent to many people. Morse said that could provide storage space savings of 40 percent.

D-Link Reshapes The Home Network At CES 2009

D-Link on Tuesday outlined its CES 2009 game plan, unveiling a host of products designed to make digital home networking simple and convenient.

The new D-Link offerings, which include an all-in-one green router with storage built in, a mini PC companion monitor and the vendor's fastest 802.11n router, will be highlighted throughout the weeklong Las Vegas show.

First up, D-Link announced the Xtreme N All-In-One 11 Router (DIR-685), an all-in-one 802.11n home network router that ties together all of the standard Wi-Fi features with network attached storage (NAS) via a built-in slot for a 2.5-inch hard drive, print server and 3.2-inch LCD monitor for displaying digital photos and network diagnostics. The router offers an upright design and touch-sensitive buttons letting users view the LCD screen that displays device status, digital photos, streamed video, weather forecasts and other information in nearly 1.6 million colors.

At CES, D-Link also will release its fastest router ever, the Xtreme N450, which can offer data speeds of up to 450 Mbps. According to D-Link, current 11n home routers run at 300 Mbps. As with other D-Link 11n devices, the Xtreme N450 features both WAN and LAN gigabit ports, D-Link's SharePort technology for printer sharing capabilities, simultaneous dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz performance, three antennas and D-Link Green technology to save power through wireless scheduling and cable and port detection technology.

Continuing on the green path, D-Link also will tout its next generation of D-Link Green technology for desktop switches, which uses energy-saving techniques that automatically detect link status and network cable length and adjusts power accordingly. The new generation decreases energy consumption and is being incorporated into all of D-Link's current Green switches to increase power savings and lower electric bills. The new Green technology will be available soon on unmanaged switch models and later this year in Web Smart switches.

Along with the two new routers, D-Link also will use CES as the launching pad for D-Link SideStage, a 7-inch monitor designed for multitasking computer users who want to use two screens -- a main screen for viewing Windows applications and another smaller screen for extending the desktop to display instant messaging, watch videos, video conferencing, Yahoo (NSDQ:YHOO) widgets and Microsoft (NSDQ:MSFT) gadgets; or to house common tools from programs like Adobe (NSDQ:ADBE) PhotoShop. The SideStage is a compact USB 2.0-powered monitor with a 7-inch LCD screen featuring 800x480 resolution, offering both landscape and portrait modes.

D-Link is also continuing on its path of home-networked surveillance with the D-Link 802.11n Network Camera (DCS-1130), a plug-and-play home and small business network security camera. The 802.11n camera features easy installation and set-up, mobile 3G and Web monitoring. It offers 16 times digital zoom, sharp resolution and multiple profiles. With 3GPP mobile surveillance, users can watch a live feed from the camera using a 3G-enabled cell phone or PDA.

Also on the surveillance front, D-Link unveiled a new family of network video recorders (NVRs) to manage an IP surveillance camera. First up is the D-Link Volta NVR Basic, which works only with D-Link brand cameras, while the NVR Pro works with cameras from D-Link, Axis, Sony and Panasonic. Both NVR models offer advanced video recording and camera management features, along with remote access via the Web.

And while Microsoft Windows 7 may or may not be officially announced at CES, D-Link is announcing and demonstrating its support for Windows 7, showing how to manage its home networking and digital home products using the upcoming operating system.

Last, D-Link is taking home entertainment to a new level at CES 2009 with the PC-on-TV Wireless USB to HDMI Media Player. The latest addition to D-Link's MediaLounge family, the new Wireless USB HDMI Media Player lets users wirelessly view PC content on high-definition televisions and share it with friends and family.

The device features a USB UWB receiver and dongle, surround sound support and an additional USB port. It also lets users stream content from their PCs from any media player like Windows Media Player, Nero, RealPlayer, iTunes and others. Also for home entertainment, D-Link launched the Coax Ethernet Adapter Kit to support bandwidth-demanding applications, like streaming HD media, music sharing and online gaming on the home network. The kit includes two adapters with Ethernet ports and a Coaxial F-type connector for bridging the adapters together, letting Ethernet-enabled devices like PCs and media players be added to the network.

It's hard to discuss the VARBusiness 2009 State of the Market survey without first addressing the gorilla in the room: the economy. The Web-based study fielded during November by the Institute for Partner Education & Development (IPED), analyzed responses from 350 North American solution providers weighing in on where they think the IT market is going in 2009. IPED is the research arm of Everything Channel, which also owns ChannelWeb. And the economy was top of mind, leading off our list of the 10 key takeaways.

VARs say global recession, weak consumer spending and the credit crisis all trouble them going into next year. But despite their concerns, solution providers aren't retreating or retrenching. Instead, SOM results indicate that VARs are identifying areas of opportunity and aggressively pursuing them. VARs listed the global recession, weak consumer spending and the credit crisis as their top three concerns. But waiting in the weeds are rising unemployment numbers -- the Federal Reserve late last month said the prospects for weaker economic activity will push up unemployment. The Fed projected that the national unemployment rate will rise to between 6.3 percent and 6.5 percent this year. The rate in October was 6.5 percent, and last year the rate averaged 4.6 percent. Next year, the Fed expects the jobless rate to climb to between 7.1 percent and 7.6 percent—also higher than its summer forecast.

But some solution providers see opportunities in the unemployment numbers, especially if customers trim ranks in their in-house IT support staffs.

"We are seeing the services part of our business pick up," said Don Richie, CEO of Sequel Data Systems, an Austin, Texas-based solution provider. "The bottom line is that companies that have to cut back on their infrastructure are coming to us and asking if we can provide a person two days per week to manage their data center, and pay us $200 per hour vs. paying someone's salary."
